Almost fixed

First layer of fiberglass with epoxy

With the repair, I made the boat much stronger. After layering the 4oz cloth (4oz per sq. yrd.), I let the epoxy cure for a few hours then added another layer of 4oz. More cloth holds more epoxy so the trade off is weight. By adding two layers inside the cockpit, I estimate the complete repair added about one pound of weight. I think that’s a good trade off at this point.

Ready for the next layer. What a messy garage.
Inside the boat ready for fiberglass and epoxy
Three coats of epoxy and 4 coats of marine varnish later and it looks almost as good as new
Battle scars! You can see the where the wood was repaired but I think it gives the boat character.
More personality

Before I re-installed the rigging, I took it out to the lake to check for leaks. No leaks!! The true test comes next. How will the boat perform under race conditions?
