The hull has a number of areas like this. You can actually see through to the inside of the hull and in some case the glue from inside seeped through. Otherwise, the wood seems pretty solid.

Prepping another large section.
A large section with a 4oz fiberglass cloth patch. This seemed to work pretty well. It strengthened the thin area and built it up almost to the level of the rest of the good wood.
