Clamping down

Posted on July 16, 2018January 4, 2023 by David

As a heavy user of tools, there are some items you simply can not have enough of like Phillips screwdrivers or 9/16″ wrenches. I’d like to add clamps to that list. But let me back up a bit.

I needed to build a coaming to to frame the cockpit so I traced the opening and cut 1/4″ plywood 1″ wide to give the boat a lip and to stiffen the deck up a little more.

The picture shows prepping the wood with epoxy before gluing it to the deck.

Now an observant viewer will notice that the coaming appears to be cut off. Well it is. When I discovered that the cockpit was too narrow towards the back I split the coaming down the middle creating a gap that allowed me to extend it out another 3/4″ on each side. I would plan to glue a couple of patches to fill the gap.

Here are two pictures proving you can’t have too many clamps. I’m using all the spring clamps I own plus a few others. I swear I had more. Guess it’s time to run to Harbor Freight
