I’ve done better

Posted on February 18, 2018January 4, 2023 by David

Glassing the inside of the hull can be tricky. Sometimes nearly impossible without gaps, bubbles and dry areas.

This one was especially difficult. I used 6oz cloth which is thicker (it’s what I had on the shelf) plus the surface was very uneven with large spaces where the wood had been removed. I had been able to sand the outside of the hull but my sander would and inside curves.

On top of that, the sheer strip was at an angle and I had used epoxy with wood flour to fill and re-enforce that area. That made for some really odd angles that were almost impossible to follow and to get the glass to stick. Even if I had used 4oz or even 2 oz fiberglass.

Even the keel strip wouldn’t let the glass smooth out.

But as the inside will mostly be hidden, I sanded out the bubbles, cut out the areas that pulled away from the sheer and reapplied epoxy.

Time to start the forms.
