With the hull sanded and prepped, now was a good time to paint the hull (and the coaming). 
The weather outside called for warm and clear skies with little wind-perfect for painting. This marine polyurethane smells really strong so it had to happen outside with lots of fresh air.
I taped off the waterline edge and used a small foam roller to spread the paint evenly. This Interlux brand paint was expensive, a quart costs 25.00 but it is excellent paint. It spread very well, almost no runs or drips and when it dried there were no bubbles or roller marks. It did a great job of covering the dark hull, with only a few darker areas that will cover with the second coat. The label recommends three coats but two will do for this.
The label recommends sanding with 320 grit between coats, just to take off the gloss for better adhesion.
WOW! I wanted a color that would accent the red cedar, that’s why I choose this red. I thought a darker red would do the trick but this red will work just fine. It really jumps.
