My old friends the magnets

Posted on June 3, 2021February 9, 2023 by David

I didn’t get many photos of this part of the repair.

Pack-ratting always pays off! After completing the build last year, I bundled all the left over strips of wood together. Even pieces that were only 12-18″ long. I used a couple of those left over and they fit and matched perfectly
The first area to repair required a patch. It had splintered horizontally.
I fit the plank into the space and ‘sistered’ it to the splintered piece.
Using a tried and true method, I held the patched or re-glued areas in place using magnets.
I use a plane to level and smooth the patched areas.
Sanded and ready to glass. I use the tape to keep the epoxy off of the rest of the boat. Once the epoxy has cured, I cut right along the inside of the tape, releasing the extra fiberglass and epoxy
Ready for epoxy
